HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF DENTON HALLOWEEN
Denton Halloween draws over one million visitors and drives $19 million in sales to local businesses. You're already in the middle of it, so here's how to make sure your business gets every dollar it deserves.
Overview
-
It's our job to get people here; it's your job to get them in the door. Below is our list of the ways you can drive traffic to your business and increase revenue during Denton Halloween.

Tips and Tricks
-
Decorate!
-
Visitors are coming for a Halloween experience and want to visit businesses that are themed accordingly. See the Decorating and Visibility tab for more information.
-
-
Set up outside your store to capture foot traffic.
-
The masses will be walking around; set up outside to meet them where they are.
-
-
Extend your hours into the evening.
-
Our data shows that peak foot traffic is 5 pm-10 pm
-
-
Consign Halloween merchandise or make your own.
-
Last year we partnered with a local artist to sell Halloween merch on consignment. The initiative brought in nearly $100K in revenue split between the city and the artist. (Standard is 70% to the artist and 30% to the business) Collaborating with a local artist takes the work of designing off of your back while supporting a local creative. With a little self-promotion, it will also help you engage both your and the artist collective audiences.

-
Create Halloween-themed specials and promotions
-
Our food and drink page is heavily trafficked. Follow the link to learn how to get your establishment on one of our Halloween-themed food and drink tours.
-
-
Plan events and submit them to the calendar
-
See the Events tab for more information or visit the Events page to submit your activity.
-
-
Overview
-
Our research shows that the majority of visitors come for the decorations and stay for the after-party and events. Entice them into your store by decorating for the season. The more decorations there are downtown, the more reasons people have to visit and explore. Help us transform Denton by going all out.

We have included a slideshow of decorations our local businesses have built below to get those creative juices flowing.

Decor Grant Program
-
The Downtown Denton Foundation offers a Halloween Storefront Decoration Grant Program. Their goal is to help our incredible local businesses transform downtown into a festive, spooky, and vibrant destination for visitors throughout October. These grants are competitive and scored by a review committee using a standardized rubric. Selected businesses will be awarded funds for Halloween decorations.

Tips and Tricks
-
Window paintings are easy and fast. Denton has plenty of creatives that offer this service.
-
Contact the Denton Halloween team about having a city-owned decor pop-up placed outside of your business.
-
Work with your neighbors to collaborate on themed decor and larger installations.
-
There is no shortage of creatives in Denton who can help you come up with off the wall ideas; some of them may be on your team!
-
Overview
-
Hosting an event is one of the best ways to get business during Halloween. During October, the event page has over 100k views; here is how to attract those visitors.
When filling out your application
-
Be descriptive
-
The more details you provide about your event, the more likely visitors will want to participate and the more likely it is that the event will appear on search engines.
-
-
Include a good photo
-
With over 300 events, there is a lot to see. Make sure your photo is eye-catching and, if possible, shows participants engaging in the event. This will allow people quickly scrolling through the calendar to get a sense of what your event is all about.
-
Event info goes in the description, not the photo. We do not recommend uploading an event flier as your event image.
-
-
Use the event filters
-
Most of our users are filtering by event type, meaning events without filters are likely to get missed.
-
Use the vendor opportunity filter if your event is looking for vendors. Using this filter allows your event to appear on our Artist Opportunities page.
-
-
Extra tips
-
Before submitting, read through your listing and ask yourself, “If I saw this on the calendar with hundreds of other submissions, would I choose to attend my event over another?”
-
Check your spelling, grammar, dates, locations, and times.
-

Marketing your event
-
Social Media
-
Promoting your own event will give you access to an audience that extends beyond what the city is bringing in.
-
If you have an exciting event and are making high-quality content promoting it, the city may ask to collaborate with you on a post, allowing you to reach an even larger audience.
-
Event websites
-
In addition to the city’s event page, posting your event to Eventbrite will help you engage with an even larger audience. Promote in-store. Make sure you are inviting your customers to your events by posting flyers and speaking with them directly.

Overview
-
We built Denton Halloween as a platform to drive traffic to our city. We do as much as we can to promote our local businesses, but our reach only goes so far. Below is a list of ways you can drive traffic to your business during Denton Halloween.
Social Media
-
Post your Halloween decor, specials, and events
-
Use #DentonHalloween and tag @DentonHalloween
-
We may re-share your post if it meets our social standards and if it is high-quality content.
-
-
Post short videos of your space, specials, or behind-the-scenes decor setup; video outperforms everything.
-
Encourage customers to tag you in their photos and repost their content.
-
Post during peak hours; your customers are most active in the evening.
-
Post high-quality content.

In-store and On-Site
-
Place signage where they will appear in customer photos
-
Set up outside your storefront to capture foot traffic
-
Create a photo-worthy moment inside or outside your space. Shareable decor drives free marketing.
-
Train staff to mention events, specials, and nearby activities to keep visitors exploring
-
