Discover Area 940: A Cosmic Halloween Experience in Downtown Denton Built by the Denton Makers Center

ree

A new and otherworldly attraction has landed in Cedar Street Park—an inviting pocket park located at the intersection of Walnut Street and Cedar Street, just southwest of the Courthouse on the Square. This immersive installation, aptly named Area 940, is a playful nod to the infamous Area 51 and its extraterrestrial lore.

The Halloween-themed display features a gleaming silver UFO—now more commonly referred to as a UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena)—surrounded by a lively cast of little green aliens scattered whimsically throughout the park. The scene transforms the space into a surreal, sci-fi playground that invites visitors to explore, snap photos, and embrace the mystery.

Area 940 was brought to life through a collaboration with the Denton Maker Center (DMC) and funded by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts. Dedicated volunteers at DMC spent countless hours constructing the display, blending creativity with craftsmanship to deliver a truly unique public art experience.

Located at 728 N Elm Street, DMC is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting and celebrating all forms of making—from visual and performing arts to contemporary crafts, design, and cultural traditions. Through public programming and community engagement,

DMC fosters appreciation for the arts across the greater Denton area.

On October 17, 7pm, you can visit Area 940 (without having Federal agent watch your every move) and meet the artists that were involved in making this unique piece of art.  Learn more about DMC and its mission at dentonmakercenter.com/about
