Locally Made Haunted Hotlines Return to Downtown Denton

ree

Last year, the 31 Days of Halloween introduced three creatively themed phone booths to downtown Denton, each decked out for the season with nods to Ghostbusters, a wicked witch, and a mad scientist. These booths weren’t just for show—pick up the receiver and you’d hear a chilling message and watch a short video about Denton Halloween and the mischief unfolding across town.

The Haunted Hotlines were a surprise sensation, transporting visitors back to a time before smartphones when landlines ruled and pay phones demanded dimes (and later quarters) for a quick, timed call. No scrolling, no selfies—just fast-talking and spooky storytelling.

The mastermind behind the Haunted Hotlines is Bryan “Wally” Walior of Odd Crow Creative (OCC), who brought the idea to life. In 2025, the phones are back—with a few new locations to keep you guessing. As you wander through downtown, you might just stumble upon one when you least expect it. After all… “Who you gonna call?”

In 2024, the Haunted Hotlines were a huge hit.  Imagine a time before cell phones, when landlines and pay phones were the norm.  If you were out and about exploring downtown Denton, you had to put a dime and later a quarter into a pay phone to make a call.  No chit-chatting, this call was on a timer and you had to talk fast.  Well, pay phones are long gone, and a larger percentage of the population has never even been in a phone.  Well, that ended last year at the 21 Days of Halloween launch a series of (3) phone booths decorated for the spooky season.  These booths were decorated with themes of Ghostbusters, a witch, and the mad scientist.  Pick up the phone and you can listen to a message and watch a short video about Denton Halloween and the mischief happening across the downtown.  Bryan “Wally” Walior, Odd Crow Creative (OCC) was the mastermind who developed the idea. The phone returns in 2025 but with some adjusted locals.  As you are exploring the downtown, you never know when you just may need a phone pay.  “Who are you going to call?”  Phone booths are located at……  Denton County Brewing Company Hemlock Fox The Plot Twist Romance Bookstore  For more information about the
